The article examines NATO’s role and sphere of interests on energy security in the political and military dimensions. There were analyzed the principles defining a comprehensive and system approach of the Alliance to the energy security. The basic ways of implementation in practical activities in the most rapid negative change and unpredictable security environment: enhance strategic awareness, strengthening protect of critical energy infrastructure, improvement of energy efficiency of military forces were determined. The conclusions about transformation of importance energy sector for NATO from definition its role to representation as a threat and transform into one of the priority direction of the NATO’s response to emerging security challenges were made.
